Colour poster, titled "MILESTONES IN AUSTRALIAN HISTORY/ 1872 / THE OVERLAND TELEGRAPH LINE / ...( a text block briefly describes the establishment of the telegraph) / Today: / THE AUSTRALIAN POST OFFICE STILL PIONEERS / NEW AND DEPENDABLE METHODS OF COMMUNICATION.". The drawing depicts two men shaking hands beneath a telegraph line, in front of a tent and campfire. "P.M.G. 59/6" is printed in the lower right hand corner.

Statement of significance

This collection consists of 87 items from the New South Wales historical section of Australia Post. The items range from furnishings that were used for the opening of the Sydney GPO in 1874 to telephones, signs, posters, and postal boxes. The material covers a period of over one hundred years of postal service in Australia.
