Sports trading card of "Karl Feifar - Disabled athlete, Track and Field". Part of a 8 card set of "Western Australian Sport Stars". Produced by Health Promotion Service (c) Health Department of Western Australia 1994.
The 'Health Department of Western Australia' collection consists of sixteen anti-smoking sports trading cards features eight Aboriginal sport stars from Western Australia: Nova Peris, Syripa Macer, Brendon Rodoreda, Joey Smith, Krishelle Mitchell, Karl Feifar, Cheryl Kickett Tucker and Mark Chalker.
In 1994 the Aboriginal Social Justice Task Force report recognised youth smoking as an issue of concern. The Smoking and Health Program developed the Aboriginal Sport Star Swap Cards, capitalising on the swap card craze. The cards promoted a health message by using young, positive Aboriginal sports people as role models. The cards are proving an effective way of promoting better health among Aboriginal youth in Western Australia.
