Physical description

Breast badge for the Knight of the Order of Australia. The badge consists of the emblem of the Order in gold and jewels. In the centre of its convex surface within a circle of gold is a representation of the coat-of-arms of the Commonwealth of Australia in colour, on a background of blue, with two branches of a Mimosa in gold. The circle being surmounted by the crown of St Edward in full colour.

Statement of significance

The RG Menzies Collection provides a material record of the success of the career of RG Menzies. The collection includes a range of medals and civil awards received by Sir Robert such as his Jubilee and Coronation medals, Order of Australia, Companion of Honour and US Legion of Merit. There are also a number of special presentation items including a walking stick, cigar boxes, silver gravy boats from the Kooyong electorate and a silver inkstand presented by Queen Elizabeth II. The collection taken as a whole reflects Menzies' public standing as Australia's longest serving prime minister.
