Booklet publised to commemorate the commencement of the first stage of the Trans-Australian Railway, from Port Augusta, South Australia to Perth, Western Australia, on 14 September 1912. The cover depicts a steam train passing through fields, the emblems of the six Australian states, and sprays of Australian flowers.

Physical description

Light blue booklet with gold text, titled "TRANS-AUSTRALIAN / RAILWAY / TURNING THE / FIRST SOD / By / His Excellency the Governor General / at Port Augusta / 14th September 1912". The cover depicts a steam train passing through fields, the emblems of the six Australian states, and sprays of Australian flowers. The booklet has 64 pages, one foldout map, and covers.
