Object information

Physical description

Household servant's bottle green woollen livery jacket with long coat-tails, lined with green sateen-like cloth. The London-made brass buttons bear the stag and crown crest of Baron Northcote of Exeter, third Governor General of Australia. The crest is described in heraldic terms as 'on a chapeau gules turned up ermine a stag trippant argent, on the shoulder of a crescent for difference'. The jacket does not have a maker's label.
