Bark painting depicting barrk, the male black rock wallaroo (Macropus bernardus). The image has been painted initially in a pipeclay wash tinged with red ochre and almost completely infilled with x-ray detail and hatching in red ochre and charcoal. X ray details include: Optic nerves, backbone, heart and lungs, liver and segments suggesting muscle structure. From neck to the beginning of the tail hatching has been added to create a pattern of lozenges along the back. The lines dividing the hands and feet into segments are 'like the lines of a man's hands' says the artist. The animal is alive.
