Object information

Physical description

Pair of Greek slippers made from wood, leather, cloth and gold thread. The slippers have a leather sole, heel and upper. The sole is covered with apricot coloured velvet. The upper is covered with cream velvet, and heavily embroidered with gold thread in a swirling border and daisy motif. Sole upper is edged with 'ric-racked' leather. The brown leather sole has been stained purple.

  • Rose Pappas migrated to Australia from Castellorizo via Cyprus in 1949 and brought her costume with her. Following tradition the costume was passed on to Marina, the wife of her eldest son
