Description

This is part of the equipment used by the Tiwi carvers who made 12 pukamani poles for the Museum in 1986. Jennifer Hoff comprehensively documented the making of these poles in her PhD thesis - 'Gifts for the dead : a stylistic analysis of Tiwi graveposts illuminated by a case study of their manufacture'. https://openresearch-repository.anu.edu.au/handle/1885/117362

Physical description

A paintbrush made from a cylindrical piece of wood with one end truncated and the other chewed and frayed. The brush has yellow pigment on the frayed end.
