An acrylic painting on canvas showing two white trucks with circular tyre marks below them. In the foreground groups of children are gathered near shelters looking towards the trucks.
The Warakurna History Paintings Collection no. 2 consists of nine acrylic paintings on canvas covering a range of historic and contemporary themes. The works were all produced by artists associated with Warakurna Artists, a locally owned and managed art centre in the Warakurna community.
These nine paintings combine traditional forms of Western Desert art with figurative elements allowing a wide range of historical and contemporary stories to be told. The works provide a visual perspective on twentieth century contact and conflict, the movement into missions, the return to homelands and the governance of the community. The works build on the dynamic acrylic painting movement, which began at Papunya in the 1970s.
