Object information

Physical description

A metal mortise axe with a wooden handle. The axe blade is a thin rectangular shape and tapers to an edge. The wooden handle is inserted into a leaf shaped slot in the blade. At the sides of the slot, the metal widens into two points before joining into a block shaped section at the back of the head. There are decorative zig zag bands on the axe head. Manufacturing details stamped into the blade read 'SOLID STEEL / [---?] & SONS / CANNOCK / WARRANTED'.
