Cylindrical red painted metal letter box with a domed top which has a protruding deposit slot. The front half of the box is a door with a silver coloured panel around the keyhole. One key is in the keyhole with three other keys dangling from the keyring. Clearance times are painted in grey and black halfway down the door, above a round silver coloured knob. The back of the box is painted with "EIIR" and a crown in gold. Below this is "No Standing - Royal Mail vehicles excepted" in white.
This collection consists of 87 items from the New South Wales historical section of Australia Post. The items range from furnishings that were used for the opening of the Sydney GPO in 1874 to telephones, signs, posters, and postal boxes. The material covers a period of over one hundred years of postal service in Australia.
