The ship has two funnels and several masts. There are lifeboats and a life ring on the side of the ship. Most of the women on the dock are wearing long pale dresses and hats and some are holding parasols. The men are wearing dark coloured suits and most wear bowler hats. There are several buildings on the dock, with the one in the foreground showing part of a sign reading "ORIENTAL COMPANY". Text in red at the top left reads "DEPARTURE OF P & O, "VICTORIA," SYDNEY."
