Expo '67 staff manual

Object information

Physical description

Brown plastic folder with metal binding rings on inside. First page reads: 'STAFF MANUAL'. Top right hand written in blue ink is 'Ed Haysom'.

Statement of significance

The Expo 67 collection consists of items that belonged to former staff members of the Australian pavilion at Expo 67 including uniforms, staff identification passes, an Expo passport, a souvenir brooch and a bowl used in the VIP dining room. Supporting material such as books about Expo 67, the Festival of Performing Arts Programme and the Australian pavilion staff manual have been included in the Museum's archival and library collections.

Australia's participation in Expo 67 in Montreal marked a departure from the nation's prior representations of itself at international exhibitions as mainly a primary producer still emotionally and economically tied to the United Kingdom. Australia chose to present a more complex view of its national character, emphasising not just primary products and sporting achievements, although these were featured, but also its modern art, literature, performing arts and developments in science and technology.
