Physical description

Rectangular yellow rubberised or synthetic textile banner with "REPUBLIC OF THE ACT / Welcomes / QUEEN OF ENGLAND" stuck-on in green lettering across it, and it has a brass eyelet in each corner.

Statement of significance

The Australian Republic Movement (ARM) Collection consists of 19 items of political ephemera used in the 1999 Republic Referendum Campaign by the pro republic organisation ARM. THE collection includes leaflets, banners, t-shirts, balloons and badges. The items are representative of the material used to promote an Australian republic during the referendum campaign.

The Australian Republican Movement was formed in July 1991. The movement was established around the central aim that Australia's Head of State would be an Australian citizen chosen by Australians. In the 1999 Republic Referendum ARM were the major non-partisan political organisation to support the Yes campaign.
