Oertling 62FM beam balance

Object information

Physical description

A beam balance consisting of a brass pillar sporting the serial number 36605 at the back, and "L . OERTLING LTD LONDON." stamped into cross bar set at the top of the pillar. There are two pans suspended from the cross bar marked "L" and "R" respectively. The balance is enclosed in a wooden case with glass on all four sides. The front consists of a removeable sliding glass panel with a plaque reading "Oertling" / MADE / IN ENGLAND". There are doors on each side of the case to enable access to the pans. A metal label on the left side reads "Aust. Dept. of Health / Station SPHTM / Plant No. B1 - 1- 2". Two plaques on the top of the frame read "MODEL 62 F.M" and "SUPPLIED BY / ANAZ / PTY. LIMITED / LABORATORY EQUIPMENT / & / CHEMICALS" respectively. Attached to the side of the balance is a grey transformer box with a metal plaque reading "Aust. Dept. of Health / Station SPHTM / Plant No. T5 / 1 / 3". The box has one white and one black electric lead attached to a bulb encased in a black tube at the back. There is also a brass dial on one side and a bakelite dial with white numbers on the other.
