Object information

Physical description

A pair of black and brown wooden bird sculptures standing upright on two legs, one with the small elliptical shaped head turning to its left and the other turning to its right. The round eyes, nostrils and mouth are burnt engraved. The back of one is covered with burnt engraved single wavy lines that run parallel with three thick shaded bands. The lower back and tail are shaded lightly. The design on lower tail consists of burnt engraved overlapping arcs and parallel arcs. The lower area is plain. On the other carving, the top exterior has pokerwork designs of both short parallel lines while running parallel to this, and starting from behind the left eye, are long parallel line markings. The right side back area is covered with burnt bands, both shaded and unshaded while the lower back and the upper tail are both shaded and the broad rounded tail is covered in concentric line markings.
