Physical description

Two silver sauce or gravy boats made for Hardy Bros, in a case. Each sauce boat has a flying "C" handle and three cast feet, also "Made in England" imprinted on the underside and four hallmarks of London, Hardy Bros, Sterling Silver, T=1954. The case is made from blue leather, with a cream satin and blue velvet lining, with two clasps on either side of the lid. An inscription on the top of the case reads "Presented in appreciation by the Kooyong Electorate". Writing on the satin lining of the lid reads "By appointment Silversmiths to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. Hardy Bros. Ltd. Jewellers and Silversmiths Australia".

Statement of significance

The RG Menzies Collection provides a material record of the success of the career of RG Menzies. The collection includes a range of medals and civil awards received by Sir Robert such as his Jubilee and Coronation medals, Order of Australia, Companion of Honour and US Legion of Merit. There are also a number of special presentation items including a walking stick, cigar boxes, silver gravy boats from the Kooyong electorate and a silver inkstand presented by Queen Elizabeth II. The collection taken as a whole reflects Menzies' public standing as Australia's longest serving prime minister.
